Biography

Dr. Ghobrial is a specialist in river ice processes, ice-structure interaction and ice-related flooding. He supervises and co-supervises over a dozen students, has co-authored over fifty journal and conference publications, and has successfully secured over $1.7 million in research funding through grants and contracts. He actively collaborates with federal agencies such as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Water Survey of Canada (WSC), as well as with provincial agencies such as the Ministry of Public Safety and the Ministry of the Environment. He also collaborates with several researchers in Canada (Polytechnique Montréal, University of Ottawa, University of Alberta, NRC, ECCC) and internationally (Norwegian University of Science and Technology and US Army Corps of Engineers). He is a member of the Committee on River Ice Processes and the Environment (CRIPE) of the Canadian Geophysical Union - Hydrology Section, and Canada's representative on the Committee on Ice Research and Engineering of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). He is guest editor of the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering for its special issue on ice and infrastructure, and is an active reviewer for several journals, including the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, The Cryosphere and Cold Regions Science and Technology.
